The Art of the Pickpocket

|

We’ve seen it in the movies, a stranger bumping into another and just as quickly as it happens the seemingly harmless person disappears into the crowd. Clutched in his hand is the victim’s wallet or passport snatched from an inside coat pocket. The skill and nerves required for such a feat is almost legendary, carrying with it an aura of secrecy, of an art as old as time itself, passed on from one practitioner to another.

A number of clips emerged recently on YouTube showing Chinese criminals using chopsticks to pick people’s pockets. We have three of them here including one where the police prevailed and nabbed a number of them. We’ve also added another interesting clip featuring Darren Brown demonstrating the art by fleecing a man using confusion and misdirection. He even took away the guys tie, reminding us to be ever careful and to take precautions when traveling. Amazing.
